Kashmiri Chai, or Noon Chai

Kashmiri Chai is an authentic Chai made from tea leaves from the hills of Kashmir. During the British Colonization of Pakistan and India, when Chai became very popular, the Kashmiri locals created their own version of the Chai: the Kashmiri Chai. In Kashmir, they drink the Noon Chai twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Throughout Pakistan, the drink is popular. Especially on special occasions such as weddings, and in the cold winter months, when it is widely offered at many street vendors.

The taste of Kashmiri leaves is less bitter and more floral than black tea leaves. The taste of Kashmiri Chai is completely different from the taste of normal Chai. This is because completely different spices are also used. Whereas Chai uses stronger and flavorful spices such as cinnamon, anise, ginger and nutmeg, Kashmiri Chai often contains more delicate spices, such as saffron and cardamom. The taste of Kashmiri Chai is very creamy, floral and citrus-like. Surprisingly different in other words!

Most spices in Kashmiri Chai have certain health benefits. They act as pain relievers, promote digestion, improve memory, and boost the immune system. Saffron is a powerful antioxidant and is used against acne, asthma, and arthritis.
